(Lorna, I don't know if you remember me, but that list of names you posted brought back many memories. I can reach a few of those people, but not most.) Mazel Tov to David Safer on his baby. I was back at SBHS around 4 years ago to interview Ms. Tulip for a grad school project, and she still talks about our Sings with her students. I met the student Sing coordinators and they said Sherry mentions us all the time. (I heard a rumor that Sing as an institution died shortly after that. Is that true? Hey, 1983 grads: Get over the Sing thing already. Nowhere is it written that the Seniors have to win every year.) The school's getting rough--with metal detectors and x-ray machines at the front door! Where were those things the day Mr. Silverstein got blown up? Anyway, I'm living in Forest Hills now and am a Press Secretary (look for me in the papers). Got my BA in poli sci from SUNY-Buffalo and an MA in journalism from NYU. I'm single (lived with Leslie Rubin for many years after college, but that's over with now. She, by the way, is currently in Tblisi making the former Soviet Republic of Georgia safe for lawyers and judges, or something like that). Hard to believe it's been almost 15 years. It's been 10 long, difficult, trying years since my conviction for raping, castrating and killing my first, second and third husbands. While on trial, I met and married my current husband, Marc. Like other graduates of the class of '83, I think that I just had a real hard time getting over those very painful words, "And the winners are....THE JUNIORS!!!!!!!" (Maybe we should form a cyber-support group -- incarceration makes other alternatives unlikely). Scrolling through the guestbook it was wild seeing so many names of people I haven't thought of in such a long time. I hope seeing my name brings back some memories for you too... just think the "silver guy" from senior SING....class of '81!! Looking back now, I feel very fortunate to have grown up in Sheepshead Bay in the 70's and early 80's. What a great place then.... and what a bunch of characters we were! Saturday Night Fever is still one of my favorite movies-- takes me right back to the Roller Palace! I think we were very lucky to have come from there although I don't really go back much anymore. I live in Manhattan by Union Square Park and work for The New York Observer. I love to travel and take pictures of my great adventures-- last big trip was through Turkey and Greece on a sailboat. I love the reactions of the people I meet abroad when I tell them I'm from Brooklyn. People seem to have such strong opinions about a place they've never even visited. It's amazing to me the image people have of Brooklyn-- good and bad. I am still friends with Brynn Goldenberg, Steven Haimowitz, Charlie Lapson and a few others. By the way, does anyone have a copy of the SING video from our junior or senior sing? I know it's out there somewhere and I would be very grateful to anyone who can help me get a copy. I am sure Debbie and Elena have a copy. Does anyone know how to get in touch with them. Anyway, this was fun...see you at the next reunion if we have one. In 1988 I moved out of Sheepshead Bay and lived in New Jersey for several years selling, servicing, and supporting Apple Computer systems ( I'm glad I got out of that). Currently I live in lower Manhattan and am enjoying being single. Some of my friends from then and now are Mitchell Blustein and Marc Sussman, some old friends like Louie Cardone and Robert Veneza I'd like to here from. Also I was hanging out mostly outside of school and becoming a Test Tube Burnout, it's a wonder I ever graduated, I also can't forget cutting out of class and going to Burger King only to be chased out by the Dean. Sheepshead was an experience hanging out in the basement in the Guitar Room, going to Mr. Snyders Print class, Losing Mr. Melendez (EMS Teacher), and Bowling Gym at Rainbow Lanes. God I miss those young carefree days (sort of), well nowadays I'm living and working in Maryland and come back to Sheepshead Bay every now and then to visit family and friends. Very sad at how the neighborhood looks now. Was considered the prototype for 'Ferris Bueller'...Late pass? No problem. Teacher's Lounge access? No problem. Blank report cards? $3 bucks each, 2 for $5. Graduated from college, and now work in Manhattan as a Senior Systems Analyst for Viacom (The company which owns MTV. Ask me about their Xmas party...) I remember Martin's; I worked there - It's gone now. Can still find me on that corner now and again, though. Most interesting thing I've heard: John Faz now teaches English. Attended same, Shell Bank, and graduted Sheepshead Bay HS in 1982. Voted Class Clown by class and appeared in Topaz year book in a Gorrilla suit. Played Sax in various bands & was musical coordinator in Sing 82. Led band at graduation at Lincoln center in NY while wearing rubber nose & glasses. Was suspended for 3 days for coersing band class to drop pants for the yearbook picture, & mailed 8x10 glossy of act to band teachers wife (Mrs. Slamow). Spent countless nights driving up and down Nostrand Avenue with my best friend and side kick Peter Kornfeld (still) in his 455 Buick Electra. (at 12 mpg, we had to siphon a lot of gas. sorry if you were a hapless victim!) Martins was the place of choice for cheese burger deluxes after a late night Sing/Band rehersal. Mei-Mei rice and gravy was a staple while I was in Shell bank. Delmar is still the best pizza in the world. I still import it to the Jersey shore (where I now reside) whenever I get the chance. I'm now married with 2 kids, ages 11 years and 6 months (nice planning huh?). Despite majoring in hooliganism while attending Sheepshead HS. I've managed to behave myself long enough to build a career. At present, I'm Vice President of Securities Analytics at Merrill Lynch in New York. (Mike Basile a Vice President??? Sell all your stock of Merrill Lynch! Someone at that company has lost their mind!) It's a shame what has become of the old neighborhood. This site is a great idea. I welcome all Sheepshead Bay stories from loyal Brooklynites, where ever you may now reside. |

I worked in the office at Sheepshead as well as the A.V. Squad I remember alot of the Bay. My father was the Mgr. of Senior's Restaurant (now gone), I had friends who worked at Joe's Clam Bar (also gone). I worked at the Marquis Room for Sid, (the Marquis room is gone). I know that Sid (a friend of Dad's) died but I don't know what ever happend to Billy. I worked at the Amoco Station on the corner of Nostrand and Y (It's a Store 24 now). I remember "The Video Store" when it first opened (I helped clean out the basement). Who can forget "Bionic Bagels"? I remember hanging out on the bleachers behind Sheepshead with a number of old friends. Well, I can type in a thousand "I remembers" but I don't want to bore you. My aunt Annette was a waitress there when she was a young girl. I went to Shellbank Junior High..graduated in 1980..I hung out in the garden in the back if Shellbank at night and drank beer and smoked cigarettes. I was cool. I went to Sheepshead as well. If anyone remembers the Sinclairs' please write, we keep in touch with alot of people from the old neighborhood. Anyway, night time beach parties at Bay One, walking to the bay for "two scoops please", that infamous horn of the fishing boats coming in with the day's catch echoing all over the bay...that's my Brooklyn.
