It has become a strange land. My mother still lives so I am there quite a bit. I took paddleball with me, how to handle people from working at the Palms Shores all those years. Live in Northern Jersey, married, two wonderful and challenging kids, am vice president of leading manufacturer of invitations, stationery and birth announcements. I was probably the youngest graduate of SBHS in 1974 at 16.5. That was not an advantage and my advise to all parents is never let your children skip grades. Even if they can be intellectual peers, growing up as a teen is about socializing and all the girls I had crushes on were older women and alas I looked even younger than my age. |

Even made a small success of myself and got married to a wonderful woman named Carol. Both of us did the military gig for a large part of our life. But I will never forget my roots and friends of fond memories which remain at 2525 Batchelder St. & on Ford. Then, courtesy of Uncle Sam, came Bosnia. Another vivid memory of a very different sort. What Carol & I witnessed while in U.S. service in Bosnia in 1995 helped us understand the "true" reality of the Pogroms and the Holocaust that our grand parents survived and have spoken of. We now know first hand of the "horrific mechanics" of ethnic hatred and why less than 10% of our original family tree survives. Since 1910 My Russia and Roumanian Born (and Carol's Poland Born), Brooklyn Raised, Brooklyn Educated (Reformed) Jewish grandparents, parents, present family and grandchildren have embraced and enjoyed the customs & traditions of the "old country" and "family values". I was born in Borough Park before we moved to Sheepshead Bay where we met & joined efforts with Italian families who also understood and shared our "family" values and "family" business ethics. Carol grew up on a farm in Odessa, N.Y. in a community of Roman Catholics and Eastern European Jews. She too understands "family" values. We are of the common thread. That is what makes our marriage work and keeps our family alive. Regrettably, this is 2000! The Old Country Is Gone In N.Y. We cannot go home again. Even Brighton is now unfamiliar territory with a completely different set of "family" values. Well I just had to be sure to make this 4th book. Graduated SBHS in '73, but spent most of that time hangin out on Batchelder ST., Popeyes. Captin Walters. I've noticed over the years that no one hangs out on Batchelder St. anymore, I guess we just used it up. Grew up on Brown St, so Batchelder was just a stone's throw. I remember that we would always go to Jahns on our birthday for a free kitchen sink, but very few brave souls were actually able to finish it. Nowadays I've been hangin out on the street corners of Gaithersburg MD. Nobody gets hi, noone gets beat up, nobody passes out. Very boring, what can I say.
